What Changes Your Post in The Digg Front Page Can Make to your Blog
I have been blogging continuously since Decemeber 2006 . But i started in November 2005 . I didn’t have any best day in my blogging history though after i shifted to new domain with wordpress installed and with new look and shorter domain than my previous blog. But this june 24/25 was the best day as i should call till now in my blogging experience . The reason being , i was in the digg front page. I always knew Digg could be the best traffic source for any website/blog . I dugg one of my posts and after an hour or so it was popular and made it to the digg front page . I noticed it instantly that why am i getting so much of visitors. i checked digg.com and i found my site link on the front page. that was “WOW” ( not vista “WOW”) . have a look at the digg front page screenshot i captured that time.
I got so many visitors that my site used to go away sometimes. I host my website in a shared hosting plan at goddady . I never host image files at my webspace ( some images i host at my webspace though) because of the fear that my bandwidth would exceed sooner. i had hosted the images in the post which made it to Digg front page in a free image hosting service imageshak.us but it also went away after an hour may be during that period . I noticed it and swiftly hosted my images to another free image hosting service , which i must say is much more better than imageshack.us , www.freeimagehosting.net . This hosting service has no bandwidth limit as i read in their FAQ. so i servived the digg effect. Thanks to freeimagehosting.net . i will never be using imageshack now.

Moving on to the other topic. Its alexa. The next day i checked my alexa ranking and “WOW” again i am ranked at between 3000 - 4000 . Thats amazing. which i never had expected . Have a look at the alexa screenshot i took . My traffic rank jumped from 4,00000 to 3000 … This is what u call the Digg effect huh. have a look at the wordpress blog stats data and the traffic sources.

Coming to earning . I checked my Adsense account later in that day ,well it was just a half day, and i had made 67 dollars already.. after the day finished and check my adsense account the other day the total earning from adsense on the digg day was 107 dollars. That made me happy. i had my adsense earning at an average or around 30 dollars per month. If my ePCM had little higher i would be making some 150 or 200 dollars on that single day only. Adsense being my major income source in my blog i didn’t check any other income source that day but after one day when i checked it was not significant to mention here.
About technorati Rank i am ranked above at some top 20,000 blogs. The digg effect didn’t make a good effect at my technorati rank anyway . i had already got a good rank due to the Viral Tag meme. after the Digg day i got some little lift in my technorati link. The one thing which hasn’t increased is my Google PageRank. I understand PageRank doesn’t Increase overnight . The point here is that i have a zero PageRank till date. This may be because my domain www.hem.com.np is newly registered ( just 2-3 months old ) previously i used to blog at www.hemnathacharya.com which has PageRank of 3 when i last checked . I hope the PageRank for www.hem.com.np i.e. for this domain will increase after some time or at least i will be at PageRank 1.
Coming to FeedBurner feedcount on the Digg day it went up to 390 subscribers. ( Please dont go and see at the feedcount at sidebar that is fake and static That trick i applied just to encourage people to subscribe to my feed because i read in some blog that people are like pig the wont subscribe to your feed if the feedcount shown has lesser numbers Ha ha
)
So this was my Experience from being at the Front page of digg. Hope you liked it and are ready to bear the digg effect before your website/blog goes away and u lose monthly bandwidht usage in a single day.

@Deelip .. I think you just need to be lucky enough… If you talk about quality of post then i see so many crappy things getting into the Digg front page and So many creative and quality articles are lost in their pool

yes- I agree with you Hem that one need to be lucky.
However, like your statistics show- you surely need to work hard so that when you land up at the front page of the Digg or other sites- you should have a website or blog that would live long in the memory of the visitors- you need to have that sort of quality content so that they would at least subscribe to your feed or bookmark your site.
We need to keep on working hard- and this is the best way- though it might seem slow but it’s for sure the steady one…
i hope you’ve cashed in the opportunity- and your visitors might be just growing.
yes- i’m a new one here. thanks for referring this post. acted like an inspiration….
