Truemors or Falsemors—- The bad side of Truemors (inside out)

Since Truemors is launched on 15th of this month. I was lured to check the site every now and then. I submitted some of my articles from my blog which were kinda related to Rumors it was good for first two days i got some 100+ traffic to my site after that i submitted few stories which never showed up. I read their Terms of use but i didn’t find any thing that makes my stories submitted not to show up .

Truemors is a Guy Kawasaki’s new startup and it can be compared to other social bookmarking sites like digg, deliciou or reddit but it deals about making rumor just those are true ( truemors ) or false ( falsemors ). I checked their alexa ranking the site was doing quite good since it was launched just few days back.

What made me repel from this site is that it didn’t show up my submitted stories. Its not the only reason the site is repelling . there are other reasons too.

1. The site is loaded with so much of Javascript that when i open it in my firefox the script becomes non responsive

truemor_error1.PNG

2.The site takes lots of time to load .

3.It keeps refreshing by itself time to time ( this may be good for the new rumors to show up in the front page but that takes my little of bandwidth and again the javascript problem may come.

4.Truemors is built in wordpress with their modification but the truemors site never shows it is based on wordpress.

5.the permalink to each post is not search engine ( as well as user ) friendly

6.the voting system sucks

7.there may be hundred of rumors submitted every minute but how do they censor which to be published

8.the webpage layout is not like a page in web2.0 era

9. My previous Rumor posts are deleted when i try to access them now it gives me  a funny error message truemors_post_deleted.PNG

About Video

A simple stick figure created in Flash gets sick and tired of being tortured, so he fights back. Check out this John Woo-style fight scene that takes place entirely within a Flash program (which gets trashed in brilliant fashion).

Nepal Launches 3G — Becomes the first to do so in South Asia

Nepal Telecom (NT), the state-run communication supplier, is launching Third Generation (3G) mobile services from Thursday. The service is being launched on the occasion of International Telecom Day. NT officials claim that Nepal is going to be the first country in the South Asia region where 3G mobile services will be launched.

According to NT director Buddhi Acharya, the SIM card for 3G service will cost 4,195 Nepali rupees (abut 64.5 U.S. dollars) and its charges will be similar to that of prepaid mobiles.

For the time being, the 3G services will be made available to area within the Ring Road in the capital city of Kathmandu.

Now Nepalese will be able to surf internet from their compatible Mobile handsets at more than a broadband speed of 384kbps

For a Mobile Freak like me This is a great news and i never expected that Nepal , a poor and small country of mine, will be the first to launch 3G service in south Asia. the mobile industry in Nepal started booming just a year ago and now with 3G available its having bright future ahead.

With introduction of 3G by Nepal Telecom its now possible for nepalese to make video calls. As compared to India , India being booming economy and being at top for Mobile penetration has not been able to launch 3G yet .

From official NTC ( Nepal Telecom ) site below are the tariffs

Note: Rs 65= 1 USD

Applicable Tariff for 3G Mobile Service:-

  • Total Cost - Rs 4195.00
  • Talk Time - Rs.3500.00
(above rates are inclusive of applicable taxes)
  • Validity - 18 months
  • Video Call - Rs 10.00/ minute *
  • Data Service/ Video Streaming - Rs 0.02/ KB *
  • Recharge Procedure & Validity as Namaste Prepaid Mobile
  • Rates for Voice, SMS, VMS, CRBT, MMS and other voice related services will be applicable as Nepal Telecom prevailing Namaste Mobile tariff.* exclusive of applicable taxes

Seeing the above Tariff I can say that its amongst the Cheapest 3G provider worldwide.

Hats off to NTC ( Nepal Telecom )

Display the Preview of Posts from your favorite blogs in your blog.

You have some favorite blogs of yours which u frequently visit . you can have updates from them and read the posts with your web readers like google reader , bloglines etc . which make use of Feeds as an input . But what if you want to display preview of some of the good blogs you like your readers to read and are in the same niche your blog is in. If you are a wordress user you can easily display the updates from your selected blogs in a page and you can give link to that page as “Recent updates from my blog circles” and there you have all the blogs listed with latest updates . The number of posts ,of course, you can control. Its just like public RSS aggregator and reader . but you may have serious copyright issue so i suggest you to display the preview of the posts and link to the respective posts .

For this purpose there are mainly two ways i have come across and are free and user friendly

1. Adam has written a Friends RSS Agregator program in PHP which u can download from his site or u can download it directly cliking here.

Example : A site using this script is here for your reference

2. Feed2js is another javascript program which aggregates the feeds from one RSS feed but u can embedd as many such feed2js code into your blog or site to display post preview from multiple RSS feeds. As feed2js also has option that u can host the javascript in your own server although they have freely provided their server for the Javascript file to run ( this saves your bandwidth..)

you can download feed2js from here or from their site

Example : you can see my blogspot blog where my updates from this blog are displayed using my feedburner feed I have created an @wiki page where you can also find my blog updates

3.For wordpress users things are very much easier due to plugins . For this purpose also there is a plugin called Feedlist Plugin you can take help in this matter from this blog

Example : WiiReign is fully automated

Fighting with Spam Comments !

I used to have small amount of spam comments that was the reason why i didn’t use spam blocking plugins but since 2-3 days i have been getting large number of spam comments in my blog so its quite boring to delete or unaprove the spam comments . I though of using Akismet . but I read about its disadvantages that it sometimes blocks your(authors) comment  and frequent visitors’ comment as well so i was lil doubtful about using it on my site. As an experiment i have activated the plugin which is inbuilt in wordpress blog package ( u dont need to download the plugin file and install it) . Lets see how Akismet performs . after some weeks i will consider deactivating it as an another experiment..

you can have a look at the spam comments i got in the screenshots below

Installing Akismet is a very easy task if you are familiar with wordpress and u have already installed and activated some other plugins . As i mentioned Akismet is rolled in the wordpress package no need to install it manually just you need to activate it and one more thing it needs is the wordpress API key . the key is sent to you by email once u sign up for the free wordpress account….
